Proposed changes remove control from DB voters and give it straight to City Hall

WHY VOTE NO ON THE CHARTER QUESTIONS?

These changes would take decision-making control from Voters and hand straight to it City Hall.

𝗔𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀, 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱:

• Cancel the March 2027 and March 2029 elections.

• Extend every current Commissioner’s and the Mayor’s term by approximately 20 months.

• Create a term-limit exemption that is not disclosed in Question D.

• Would remove voters’ right to approve or deny public land sale, lease, or transfer, on City owned property valued at over $750,000. —This means the city can sell any public land to data centers or developers or anything else they want without voter approval.

• Weaken voter-approved beach protections.

• Remove FAR restrictions that help limit overdevelopment and congestion.

• Allow developers greater use of public beach parking.

• Make certain major public-safety decisions harder for future elected Commissions to change.

The City’s own Charter Review Board recommended shortening terms by four months to move elections to November. Instead, three Commissioners voted to extend their own terms nearly two years. These changes deserve more time, complete disclosure, and separate public consideration, not nine rushed questions on a crowded ballot.

Official Response to a Request Ballot Language Verbiage

The City Of Deerfield Beach provided a response to a FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) request for the official ballot language that will appear on the November 3, 2026 national ballot. Their response is only a Change Page, not the official ballot question language as requested.

This isn’t the first time the City has tried this.

This is the City’s legal description of the March to November switch.

Note the City’s own legal description of the ballot switch from March to November doesn’t even mention 20 months of extended terms or removal of term limits for all the commissioners and the mayor.

• Change election dates to November of even-numbered years and extend current terms by about 20 months (the election-timing item).

• Remove the requirement that voters approve, at a referendum, the sale, lease or transfer of city-owned property worth more than $750,000, with existing exceptions for a pier restaurant lease and pier and beach amenity rental contracts.

• Amend Section 11.01, which limits beach-area development, to remove only the floor-area-ratio regulations and the restrictions on mixed and accessory uses, while keeping the 45-foot commercial and 55-foot multifamily height caps and lot-coverage limits.

• Amend Section 11.02 to remove minimum parking-space-size rules for the main beach parking area, the limit on commercial use of that land to no more than 15 days a year, and the ban on using those spaces to satisfy other properties' parking requirements.

• Require a four-fifths vote of the commission before any future move to contract out, transfer or consolidate the city's police or fire services.
