The proposed FY2027 budget allocates approximately $159.6 million for Public Safety, about 36% more than FY2026. Overall operating expenditures are 14% higher than last year, while the proposed property-tax levy increases approximately 5.9%.
The newspaper notice says the proposed FY2027 budget has $159,649,057 for Public Safety, and the overall operating budget is 14.0% higher than last year. The separate tax notice shows the proposed property tax levy rising from $72,452,060 actually levied last year to $76,707,717 this year, an increase of about $4.26 million, or 5.9%.
And the General Fund analysis says the FY27 BSO increase alone is another $7.7 million, consisting of approximately $4.3 million more for law enforcement and $3.4 million more for Fire Rescue.
Meanwhile, General Fund personnel costs increase $31.7 million, or 86%, largely because the City is staffing its new public-safety operation. Employee insurance costs also rise substantially for the same reason.
But inside the City’s detailed budget, Public Safety expenditures rise even more dramatically: from $117.4 million in FY26 to $159.5 million in FY27, an increase of approximately $42.1 million, or 36%.
